College Scholarship

The West Valley Eagles have established a college scholarship fund for ex-West Valley Eagles' athletes who are graduating high school seniors in 2017. Last year five awards of $500 each were made. This year budgets are tight and there may be fewer awards.

Multiple scholarships will be awarded by the West Valley Eagles to eligible High School seniors who have been West Valley Eagles Track Club participants. The awards are not based on need but on athletic and academic merit. The stipend is intended for college related expenses (i.e. tuition, room & board, books, etc.). The WVE Scholarship Committee will have sole responsibility for choosing the recipients.

To apply for a scholarship, request an application from Pete Amdisen at the contact info below, and mail the completed application and attachments to:

Jack Dawson Scholarship Fund Mission Statement

The Jack Dawson Scholarship Fund was established in 2005 to honor Jack Dawson upon his then 30 years of service and his continuing dedication and leadership to the West Valley Eagles Track Club. During his now 40 year tenure he has built the Club into a Conference and National Championship team winning numerous titles and contributing to the development of several Olympic Champions.

The WVE Club has therefore established a College Scholarship Fund to reward past Eagle Athletes who are current High School Graduating Seniors that have demonstrated athletic excellence with the Eagles and with their subsequent High School Teams together with academic achievement leading to a College education and a desire to continue their running career at the college level. They must also have demonstrated high personal character and leadership traits together with good citizenship with both the Eagles and the community.

IN SHORT: they must be GOOD AMBASSADORS for the West Valley Eagles and an INSPIRATION to the current younger West Valley Eagles Athletes to reach for Excellence in their Life and Continuing Athletic Careers.

Jack Dawson Scholarship Fund Objective

It is the Objective to Award Multiple Scholarships to Qualified Candidates who were Ex-Eagle Athletes no matter what their Event Specialty might be: Sprints, Hurdles, Distance or Field Events. It is hoped that each year the Award Winners will include both Males and Females, Sprinters and Distance.

Candidates must be Graduating High School Seniors that have applied to enter College and have Demonstrated High Moral Character and Leadership.

Athletic Performance is the Primary Selection Criteria beginning with their Eagles Career and to a lesser extent (but still very important) their high school career. It is hoped that the candidates will have competed at the State and National Levels. Eagles and Community Service are also important Factors. Financial Need is NOT a factor and will not be considered.

This Award is basically an ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIP Honoring Jack's contribution to the Development of EAGLE EXCELLENCE and hopefully an incentive to CONTINUE the EAGLE TRADITION.
